I just got a very small Merodontotus tigrinus. He/she is about 4". I read they are difficult to get eating but are otherwise hardy. I picked up some small feeder livebearers and voila, a fat little stomach on the trigrinus. I hope there is nothing tricky about these little fish because he is a beaut!

One of my favorite catfish. You can feed it frozen blood worms and then chopped up market prawns. Getting them past the 3" mark is the trickiest part.
It's really interesting the way the stripes develop. Please take pics of it.
Congrats on the pickup, Rich. |

Thanks for the tips. I'm happy to have him on live fry but look forward to him switching to a more economical food. Do you have one now? Are they challenging? I'm pretty excited about him.

They can be a challenge. I once almost lost a 3" one due to nitrite poisoning. It stopped eating, started breathing hard and scratching. I had to place it in a larger tank. You just have to make sure the water is very clean.
They're a magnificent looking catfish, with striking stripes and long trailers. I'm sure you will have many years admiring it. |

| It looks good. The stripes are coming along nicely. Sometimes the stripes come out nice and straight and sometimes they come out with a crazy squiggly pattern. |
